USB *can* support much higher bandwidth than ADB, but if all you want
is a keyboard and mouse, there's no technical reason why it can't be
done.  However, the market for such an adapter is probably too limited
for anyone to invest the effort to develop it.

Shortly after ADB was introduced, I developed a converter that would
allow the use of old-style Mac keyboards and mice on an ADB host,
or ADB keyboards and mice on an old Mac.  Lots of people expressed
interest, but too few were actually willing to spend the $129 asking
price, so the product was cancelled fairly quickly.
