I've heard of a few people doing that with tower cases. I remember
someone from the Apples BC user group that had a Macintosh motherboard
and a GS motherboard in the same case. He used an NEC Multisync
monitor for both with a switch for the keyboard/mouse, and he also had
the Second Sight VGA card on his GS.
I've had a thought about modifying a Vulcan hard drive case to hold
both a hard drive and an LS-120 drive, and cutting an opening on the
front case of my GS so I would have a built in high density drive. The
only problem with that is the LS-120 won't work with out a driver on a
GS it seems.
