That is a pretty nasty outcome. MacOS 9.x also freezes when you try to write to mounted ProDOS disk images via Disk Copy. Apple is aware of the problem, but has not taken any efforts to fix it. :-( It is a moot issue with MacOS X anyway since, as you noted, there is no ProDOS support.
