If you are discussing the ///SHH Systeme MicroDrive I have a manual
dated 1996. It says that older versions of the IDE card won't make
partitions greater than 32MB but this version does. It also has a 3/4
page lecture on why you shouldn't use HFS partitions with an Apple IIgs
(not the least of which is that there are no recovery programs which can
repair a damaged HFS directory structure on the Apple II).

I think you should boot the utility program and try to make a disk
partition larger than 32MB (type an E to enter the partition editor).

You will get a !! next to the partition if you are successful (the !!
being a warning from ///SHH Systeme that you can make partitions as
large as your hard disk will allow but don't send them any complaints if
something goes wrong with the data on your hard disk). If the utility
won't let you make big partitions then your card can't use them anyway.
