AW5 is not in the public domain.  The only legal way to get it is buying it
from an owner.  It is widely pirated, as you may already know.

I used to update any legal owner of AppleWorks to AppleWorks 5.1. I did this
with the knowledge of the manager of development of version 5.1, the latest and
last version of AppleWorks for the Apple II. 

We started this program after much discussion with AppleWorks programmers,
developers, testers, writers, and users While we agreed that while it wasn't
quite kosher, that it would be a "reasonable" thing to do for people who were
_already legal owners_ of earlier versions, and it simply wasn't available any
other way.   I also included some bug fixes, which helped with crashing on
startup, a data base error,  and minor Y2K issues.  

Then someone on this board called me a pirate for doing it, so I stopped.  

What can you do......?  We tried.  :-)
