AppleWorks 5.1

For your interest, here is a list of the bug-fix patches available for
AppleWorks 5.1. Most of these bugs would never be noticed by the casual user.
TEXAS II readers are not casual about anything when it comes to AppleWorks, so
we have these patches.

These patches pertain only to "bugs and annoyances." There are hundreds of
other AppleWorks 5.1 patches available which are fun, interesting, useful, and
"just because.."

- UltraMacros/GS accessories interference: Fixes AppleWorks 5.1 crash on
startup when IIGS is launched from the Finder and certain GS accessories are
present. This is the same patch that is included in RFP.

 - Currency character in reports. Fixes the AppleWorks 5.1 currency character
in data base reports so that it matches the currency character in your display.

- Fix "Import, then recalculate" message. Fixes the AppleWorks 5.1 data base
Options menu item that refuses to toggle, and sets it correctly.

- Fix duplicate words in Custom dictionary bug. Long-standing bug where having
duplicate words in the Custom dictionary causes the spelling summary to be
wrong, and spelling errors missed.

- Skip words beginning with 5L and 5M. Long-standing bug where the AppleWorks
spelling checker crashes on the phrases 5L, 5M, and similar phrases, usually
occurring when a RamFast SCSI card is present.

- Use macros with AppleTalk: AppleWorks 5 won't let you use macros if Appletalk
is active. Just because it didn't work on theirs, doesn't mean it won't work
on yours. This patch lets you have both.

- Load I.UM.IIGS Cmds into Apple IIe, IIc, or Mac. If your personal default
macro set contains commands from I.UM.IIGS, they won't compile if you are using
a IIe, IIc, or Mac. This patch allows them on any machine.

- Y2K setting in @Today function. Fixes the UltraMacros command @Today so that
it works properly in year 2000 and later.

- The source code to the default macro set (found on the /EXTRAS disk) has
been updated so that it actually matches the default macro set. These macros
were changed from version 5.0 to 5.1. The source code on the disk wasn't
updated. We fixed that so they are both the same.

And the biggest bug of all: For the last year of production, approximately
1997-1998, Scantron Quality Computers shipped the wrong accessory disk with
AppleWorks 5.1. They may have shipped you a disk named /INSTALL, containing
fonts and Reportwriter samples. We give you the correct disk, named /EXTRAS,
which contains AppleWorks and UltraMacros sample files, the ALARMS data base,
RFP, and other important resources.

If you have any other bugs, we can probably fix them.
