Unix trn using a friends private news server. My univ. ISP doesn't
provide a newsserver anymore (discontinued two years ago as a cost saving
measure). My cable modem ISP doesn't provide shell access (hence trn
etc.) and I can't stand reading news via Netscrape. So at home I telnet
into an unix account and access a newsserver via trn. The downside is
that this private newsserver seems to get only about 80% of news posts. A
multipart post is almost always incomplete. CSA2* posts tend to be single
posts, and enough material is quoted to fill me in on missed posts in a
thread so it is not too shabby. The cable modem ISP newsserver seems
pretty complete but is not accessible from any place except my home
machine. Not always convenient. <rasberry sound>
