I think Sargon III and Chessmaster 2000 were the two hardest to beat.
However, I personally like Battle Chess, though the first few levels of
computer play are too easy to beat, while the harder levels take too long
to make a move.
I still enjoy seeing the move "Rook captures Queen"...
