That is correct only for the "original" CP/M cards where the Z80 accessed host memory directly (Microsoft SoftCard, Applied Engineering Z80+, etc.) I used an Applicard (as well as the late, lamented CardZ180) on a IIe with ZipChip, IIgs with TransWarpGS, etc. No problem at all.
