Hi Ralph,
what I'd suggest is splicing an old-style PC keyboard cable to a long PC
serial port cable. Or splice a DE-9 connector to the end of a cut-off
keyboard cable, then use a serial port extender cable to do the rest.
Alternatively, RadioShack has wire with 4 or 6 conductors in long lengths.
If you need 8, twist together two fours and tye-wrap every so many feet...
like that.
