The handshaking of the IIc hardware is not very good. It may be possible to
up the speed with the optimum cable wiring, but as you say, since the files
are so small and the floppy capacity too, there's not a lot of need for
speed. I think I just use 2400 too.
One nice addition to a IIc is the 800K 3.5" UniDisk. It is the only 3.5"
drive that will work with a IIc, and can be recognized by the eject button
which is in the extreme upper right corner of the front panel. The other
kinds have the eject button in the same plane horizontally as the floppy
slot, e.g. lower down.
When you are used to having only 140K, 800K feels like a hard disk. A IIgs
is also nice to have as an intermediary between the other Apple models and a
Mac (Appletalk networking is easy) or PC.
It downloads a lot faster, and uses the common 3.5" drives or a hard disk.
