First, let me say I agree with your assessment regarding the feasibility
of someone learning about the Laser 128 for the purpose of making money
repairing them.  But...

As a tech, you most likely repair your own stuff so you probably don't
run into these bozos.  Many technicians do a much poorer job of customer
service and rather than explain that it would not be worth the
customer's time & $ to have them attempt a repair, they discourage the
customer from pursuing a repair.
