As others have pointed out, an ImageWriter will work just fine with both a
IIGS and an older Mac. Only problem...it's a dot matrix printer.

Much higher print quality can be achieved. After all, the IW II is, what,
15 years old? Color ink jets can be had dirt-cheap, and their resolution
is much, much higher.

There are some older HP DeskJet printers that come with both parallel and
serial ports, and there are HP DeskWriters that were designed to be used
with a Mac, but that can be used with a IIGS if it has Harmonie installed.

Harmonie is a set of printer drivers for the IIGS that lets you use HP
DeskJets, DeskWriters and LaserJets with the Apple IIGS. Using Harmonie,
I've had a LaserJet connected to my IIGS for almost 10 years, and although
I do have some IWs in the garage, there's no way I could go back to the
low resolution of a dot matrix printer.

Information on Harmonie can be found at http://users.foxvalley.net/~joko

If you do get a high resolution printer for the IIGS, you'll also want to
get Pointless, an add-on to GS/OS that lets you use TrueType fonts. Info
on Pointless can also be found at http://users.foxvalley.net/~joko
