I'm not sure (don't quote me on this) but you may need a little bit more
memory. 2MB will definately be enough.
Have you tried booting an earlier system disk, like 5.0.2 or 5.0.4 which
have less memory requirements.
Another thing to check is that the RAM card settings in the control panel
are set to 0K RAM disk to leave maximum RAM for System 6.0.1. You need to
cold-boot after changing that setting.
If that all fails, I'd say you have a faulty RAM card, but you should be
able to test it with a RAM card testing utility like the one that comes with
AE GS RAM cards.
I have a 4MB AE GS RAM ULTRA, when I first got it it only had 2MB, but
exibited the same problem that you describe. All other games etc worked
fine, but System 6.0.1 wouldn't run. It turned out to be one bad DRAM chip.
Luckily the GS RAM ULTRA has socketed chips, I don't know if you 1M Apple
card has. I found the faulty chips using the AE RAM card testing program.
