Try entering this in Applesoft on any Apple II:
10 ?
20 ~
30 {
40 }
50 |
Then LIST it, and here's what you get back:
10 PRINT
20 ^
30 [
40 ]
50 \
Next try:
PRINT 3~3
And you'll get back:
27
Apparently, when Apple modified BASIC to work with lowercase letters, they
didn't put an upper level on the range checking, and the input routine
treats a tilde (~) as a caret (^).
Has anybody else ever stumbled upon this, or am I the first one?
