If you're not trying to go too fast the 70ns SRAM will work fine in
both TAG and DATA. In TAG they worked at 10.5mhz but not 12mhz. I
don't happen to have an oscillator between those speeds. In TAG It
should be fine at at least 15mhz. I haven't tried it at higher speed
as my ZipGSs are pretty unstable over 15mhz. I'm using 15ns in both TAG
and DATA though TAG doesn't really need that fast SRAM. Someday maybe
I'll order in some 12ns SRAM and see if that'll make 16mhz stable.

I've never had to do an upgrade on a ZipGS with a 2 pin oscillator. The
couple I've looked at didn't have any socket installed. They also had
extra parts on the circuitboard. I can't recall the exact details of
that. If you want to compare cards there's a scan of one of my ZipGS
on my website.
There's also a bit about upgrading the ZipGS at

There should be a fair bit of postings about the ZipGS if you do a
Google search
