A few points are in order.One, You don't "build a conference around" things that came out LAST YEAR -- d'oh -- because what would you have built the conference around the year before then?
Two, if you're dissatisfied with the direction things have gone, then I ask you honestly if you've done something about it.
Three, either way your position is basically indefensible. If you think the conference is kewl and these old-timers have ruined it, what have you done to fix it? (I'll bet you've done nothing.) OTOH if the conference is lame and it is just a buncha of geeks reminiscing, only cruelty would deny the people you think to be so inferior their chance at reminiscing. So...either you are lazy or you are a sadist. Or perhaps you are both -- just another internet person hiding behind the screen to sneer at the people who actually DO THINGS.
