Re: Apple IIc memory expansion slot pinout

The memory would be nice for IIc users but I have doubts about the value
of the 65816 part. There were a few RAM cards that would let you use a
65816. Problem is that there were only two programs that would take
advantage of it. Virtually all IIc, IIe programs were written with code
for 65C02 only. If there's no code for the 65816 then it'll only run in
65C02 emulation mode and confers no advantages. Now if you could design
in an accellerator then that would be a big plus.

That's somewhat along the lines I was thinking as a bonus to having a 65816 in there, if I could work it out. I can translate the signalling of a 65816 into those of the 65c02 easily enough (minus the extra RAM space), but a 65802 would do fine in that case. Problem is, I can't seem to find a supplier for the 65802. I wrote WDC, but no reply from them yet.

Mostly I want the new processor just to play around with... I suppose I could just pick up a GS, but I kinda like the IIc, and it gives me a lot of opportunity to do some interesting hardware hacking.

As Wayne said, if you could have it as an accelator (like the Transwarp for the //e), it would be great, esp as a 65816 can easily run five to ten times faster (by the clock), and offer 16 bit capabilites (like math for instance) to the 8 bit Apple II.
