Well, everyone _was_ doing it. Remember the Apple 2 Clones and the Taiwan copycat Industry?

I have to support Conrad on this. Cloning Hardware is _much_ more simple than engineering it from scratch since you don't have to have fundamental knowledge of the platform the clone is running on. And you don't have to develop the software ...

Nowadays its Chinese copys and piracy.
