A while back I took a bunch of pics of the Apple IIs I could find in
my storage lockers so if I wanted to check something, I wouldn’t have
to go searching for a particular machine.. Then I thought I’d use
those pics to put together a database of the Apple IIs I have and
learned a few things
I tended to think that the motherboard model would change at a certain
serial number though you might hit the odd machine where the
motherboard could have been replaced. But it doesn’t work that way. I
would have thought motherboard revisions would match up with the date
on the motherboard. Not so, it looks like with the motherboards being
manufactured in different counties, that one country would start
manufacturing a new revision months before another country did. In
some cases a lot of months. I’ve got a 820-0044-C that was made 41
weeks later than a 820-0044-D. That’s only the worst example I have,
there’s others.
