Starting motherboard production 4 months or so before the introduction
probably isn't too unusual. Especially if the motherboard is produced
in one country and the computer assembly in another. Then they want
all the dealers to have stock on the introduction date. People get
excited about introductions and want it now so you can move a lot of
computers that day.
Was it last year when I saw a couple hundred people lining up outside
an Apple store for the new iPhone before it was out.
