Good news!
I swapped some RAM from the parts computer into my //e and finally got the following, reproducible error in the self-test:
RAM 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0
Then, using the //e schematic [1] and a helpful comment in this newsgroup from 1998 [2], I isolated and swapped out what I hoped was the final bad RAM. And then I re-ran the self-test:
System OK!
