Re: IW II woes
Definitions:
A Carriage return (CR) brings the printer head back to the beginning of
the current line.
A Line feed (lf) moves down one line in the vertical plain but does not
change the horizontal plain.
Printers usually require both a CR and LF at the end of a line to
advance the paper properly. Apple software normally only sends a CR, so
most printers can be set to automatically take a CR and add the LF to
it. You may need to turn this feature off on your printer if your
software is already sending the LF or set the software to not send the
LF.
A document sent to a printer is a continuous string of characters.
Embedded in this string are control codes such as CR and LF to cause the
printer to realign itself to force where the end of a line is. If the
codes were not there, a word could be split over two lines whenever the
printer go to the edge of a page.
If you reach the end of the physical limits on a printer line, it
normally inserts a CR and LF and then continues printing the continuous
string of characters. If the printer reaches the end of a physical line
and it automatically generates a CRLF, then prints the CR LF sent form
the computer, then you will get the double spacing.
Try limiting the number of characters per line to 2 less than the number
that will fit on a single line.
