I have a couple Apple IIgs and an Apple IIc lying around
and want to put one of them to work as a BBS in the
near future (after I move and have room to set it up).
What is the best BBS software to use and where can I
get it? I've seen a lot of talk about GBBS recently but
since it is currently "unavailable" what other choices
are there? I'm looking for something relatively easy to
use (duh) and that has add-ons (like games etc.)
available for it. Being freely available would be nice
too (I know, I want it all :))
My plan is to put this BBS on the internet accessible via
telnet. My options seem to be to us Synchronet BBS for the
PC (which I have heard has a door program that will allow
access to another BBS through the serial port) or there is
another program that someone wrote called BBSlink that
acts as a telnet server on the PC side and passes incoming
connections through a null-modem cable to whatever BBS
you have connected. Anybody have experience doing this? Are
there any other methods?
To be honest, I'm not to familiar with the Apple IIgs or
Apple IIs in general. I was originally going to do this
with a Commodore 64 but there really aren't any
affordable hard drive solutions for the Commodore. (The
SCSI interface is too dang expensive!)
Which brings me to another question...
I have several external Macintosh SCSI hard drives
ranging in size from 20MB to 300MB. I would like to use
one (or more) of them with the IIgs. What is the best
way to go about doing this?
Is any of this possible on the IIc (hooking up SCSI
hard drives and running a BBS). I guess I'm probably
better off using the IIgs but I figured I would ask.
Thanks!
