The Deskjet 500 I picked up last year works really well with Applewroks
and other programs, but I cannot print (catalog or program listings) from
basic. Nor can I print assembly listings from merlin. All I get is a mess
of extended (hi-bit) characters.
The Imagewriter manual says that Applesoft always sends characters to the
printer with the hi-bit set. I read elsewhere that the problem is the
super serial card always sets the bit high when accessed from PR#1. I
understand that the Grappler lets you select 7-bit characters, but the SSC
does not have that option.
What can I do to print to the Deskjet from basic? How do other programs
manage to do it?
