Yes I know the situation is very different in North America.  My
comment above reflected the European situation, where AM nowadays is
used almost only for transmissions targeted abroad.

Around 1980 turntables providing 78 rpm could still be obtained,
although they were quite rare already then.  Today turntables have
almost vanished from the consumer market - if you want one, you must
either buy an expensive studio turntable, or look for one at second-
hand or flea markets.
