This is the only mechanism I have heard about. Is there another one?

... yes, a few, but I'm not an expert at any of them and a quick scan of my
files isn't bring up what I want.  Here's what I remember off the top of my
head, although I don't know if any will be easily adapted to your flashcard
system:

	1.	Chinook SCSI Utilities allows the creation of seven partitions (224 MB)

	2.	RamFast SCSI card, more partitions, but I don't know the limit. Nine or
twelve spring to mind.

	3. There are some Mac programs that I have a print out somewhere on from last
year that will create partitions, such as on a Zip disk, which then can be
formatted for ProDOS on an Apple II and run using a SCSI card (RamFast or Apple
SCSI revision C(?) or later.

	4.	FOCUS Drive's IIgs software allows for the repartitioning of up to
about 30 partitions (I tried going one over once and the GS/OS locked up the
program and, thus, the 500Meg drive, in a continuous start up loop.  I don't
recommend doing that.)  Once partitioned, the drive can be used on a IIgs or
//e--I've even used in the expansion port on my Laser 128 EX/2.

Also, tell me again, why you would want more than 64 meg?  (I would think that
would 

hold almost every apple program out there, excluding large data files of
course)

... Every Apple II program?  Hardly!  I use my Apple //e.  I mean I REALLY USE
IT.  If it's something daily, something special, important, or new, an idea
that needs to be played with, whenever my students need specialized
materials--which is often (That reminds me, I have customized math worksheets
to run off this weekend!), I use my //e.  Here's a briefing of my 200 Meg.  All
partitions are 32767K, except for the last, which is 8141K (not enough for
another 32MEG partition).

	All of this leaves the drive with a maximum theoretical space of 44.6 Megs of
room to grow, but as you can see from the numbers, those 32 Meg partitions are
filling up.  All this and I still haven't even created an FDOS partition in
partitions one or two to place 16 Megs of DOS 3.3 programs that could then be
run on the hard drive at last.  16 megs sounds like a huge amount, but remember
that just seven 140K disks use up about one megabyte of hard drive space, or,
if you prefer, 10 disk = 1.4 megs.

	Now back to my classroom--

		I teach six grades, kindergarten through fifth, everyday, to students with
learning delays in reading, written language, mathematics, study skills
(knowing what to do, organization, the ability to stay attentive and on task),
spelling, and whatever else their IEP states are their needs.  Some of these
students may be reading two or three years below grade level, while sitting
next to them is a student who reads beautifully, but can't write a sentence or
add 2 + 2 to save their life.  The vast working library that I've built up over
the years has been a great resource because I can find a program that will
supplement the services I deliver to the students that addresses their
individualized needs.  My software cabinet is 18" deep, 3' wide and 5'
high--and it still doesn't hold all that I need!  At all times, there are at
least six 50-disk floppy caddies that have overflowed from the cabinet out to
bookcases for my most used programs (multiple copies for the four Apple II's in
the room).  Right now, I'm running on a 20Meg hard drive that the district
bought, not for the classroom, but for classroom material checkout.  When they
switched (let's be honest, moving from an Apple II that works to a Mac and then
IBM that doesn't, hardly justifies the meaning of the word "upgrade," so they
"switched") computer systems (at least twice in the last six years), I asked if
I could have it for the classroom.  I keep cleaning stuff off of it, but it's
still has less than 1 meg of space on it, and that's without many of those
programs that are in the cabinet, thanks to copy protection, DOS3.3 operating
systems, and coding that did not allow the running of the program from a hard
drive.

		I hope this gave you some insight to the need for as much HD space as
possible.  When all else is said and done, all hard drives eventually fill up,
so it's nice to have as much elbow room as possible -- especially in ProDOS,
where there is the 32Meg limit.
