Yes, and where has it gotten us? To the overtly intrusive hoops you have to
jump through to register Windows XP just to get it to function.
As if Micro$oft could even pay me to use their trash.
That said, how much longer before we don't even buy software anymore
(including the OS), but instead rent it with an annual renewal fee or it
ceases to function on the renewal date? (exactly what Micro$oft has been
seriously considering as their future business model)
