Ok, I went on some of the apple sites and got the pin outs for a null
modem cable. I carefully made one up. I checked and rechecked the
wiring. It checks ok. This is how I wired it:
Apple 5 Pin PC 9 Pin
Pin 1 DTR -------------------------> Pin 6 DSR
Pin 2 TD --------------------------> Pin 2 RD
Pin 3 GND -------------------------> Pin 5 GND
Pin 4 RD --------------------------> Pin 3 TX
Pin 5 DSR -------------------------> Pin 4 DTR
In addition I shorted pins 1 & 6 together on the pc side.
I am running hyper terminal on the pc set at 9600, 8N1, and the same on
the apple IIC. I am using a program on the apple called Proterm. I am
using apple's unstandard way of wiring the 5 pin connector (it doesn't
match up with the numbering on the connector itself). It is as follows
(male and looking at it from the front).
1 5
2 4
3
This is driving me batty!! Has anyone else played around with this?
What are you using? I have no way of getting stuff from the internet
over to the apple except through my pc. I was going to transfer from
the pc to the apple using terminal programs, but I must be missing
something. Before I forget it, I can set hyper terminal to send using
hardware control, or software. What should it be? I don't know what
the apple program is using (Proterm). I have no documentation on the
program.
Thanks for reading, and any help!!
