Indeed very true.  However, since Aztec C was released before ANSI C
standardisation even had begun, don't you think it's a bit too much to
require Aztec C to comply to a standard that didn't even exist then?

Most certainly not -- the resouces on the II is just too small:
64K RAM, 256 bytes stack --- you get the idea.
 
BTW since Cfront too predated ANSI C, it most certainly won't
require an ANSI C compiler to run.

And since Cfront predated both ANSI C and ANSI C++, quite naturally
Cfront doesn't implement all of ANSI C++ ...  <g>

A cross compiler was the assumption here, as I understood it.

The answer is also: "Yes, one can write Apple II software in C++ for
the Apple II" ... if one uses the Apple II as only the target system.
That's a pretty tedious route though and I wouldn't want to follow it.
Also: the Apple II is such a small and simple system that C++ isn't
really needed for Apple II software.
