Supertimer,

You didn't answer my recent request for help with a pc cable so your comments must be based on limited input.

Seven Hills bit the dust, but Ewen Wannop is with Shareware Solutions now and we have the benefit of new upgrades to Spectrum. SAM, an email client, makes use of Marinetti for a TCIP connection. He has an FTP client being beta tested.

Delphi no longer supports text. Eric Shephard bought Syndicomm.com and has started up A2Central. That's looking very impressive and I suspect most of the long time experts are found working there. Maybe the folks who used to post here went there. Joaquim Lange created the LancGS and is selling it through Eric's website.

I'm still online mostly with my GS at 38k baud. People who don't know about the GS can't believe it uses a fast modem. My husband finally got a multi-MHz pc and it's slower than molasses compared to the GS. I just bought a 56k modem because I think it will be able to do better than 38k. I let some pc users idea about phone lines influence my choice of modems in the first place.

My ISP upgraded to Debian potato last year so I now have SHH and SSL with the GS. It's interesting that I never have cookies in the cookie jar. Don't have to worry about worms or viruses either. Can now download files at 38K. Compared to the Netscaped Gateways that UCD has in it's libraries, the GS beats the in house system hands down for doing research on Melvyl.

Can't do some things but they aren't worth talking about.

The project I'm currently working on is attaching pc drives to the Bludisk. I bought a pair of Buggie power supplies a couple years ago. That gave me the idea to buy an old tower, put in new drives and rewire with the Buggie power supply. I just got a long length of cable to attach the drives to the Bludisk. The salesmen kept a straight face when I brought my Ruby Goldberg in to check the cable ends. I don't have a vocabulary for connectors so must have them look to make sure I get the right parts.

The GS SIG of the Gravenstein Apple Users Group is still helping folks get started with Apple IIs. Still recycling. As I check all the disks we recycle I hope to get the Bludisk working to help me verify the IBM disks too. We've sent software and hardware as far as Germany and Australia.

I'm selling our vintage treasures on eBay. If it wont go locally, it'll go there.
