Time for a new drive. Opening an HD is a BAD thing since you have
now contaminated the HD operating environment with microscopic
dust. These things are made in clean rooms where there is no dust
and you violated that.  Time to find a new SCSI drive.  If you don't
find an Apple branded drive, you will have to locate HD formatting
software too.

Netscape 2.0 works on an LC III.  You would need to install PPP,
MacTCP and SLIP extensions. There is also a Remote Network
extension that you would need.  To connect to a modem, you need
the Mac 8-pin mini-din to RS-232 cable which are fairly common.
I have a box of them.
