Cartoon creators

I remember a //e program called "Create with Garfield" that was used
to generate comic strips from clipart and backgrounds of Jim Davis'
work.  Were there any similar cartoon makers out there?  Preferably
that utilized the //gs's l33t graphics abilities.  Most preferably,
that didn't use copyrighted characters.
