I agree. and that is Exactly how my net was set up loe these many years ago.  
I found a use for a hub (right after I found a surplus hub ;)
Up till a month or so ago I had  this arrangment: 
Library: PC Mac and a GS on a LANceGS --HUB----COAX------Shop Hub----Lots of 
various junk.
But then the plumber plugged his power drill into my surge gizmo with (thank 
God! only) the library  hub on....no more hub.   I went to find another hub 
locally with BNC but alas they don't make those no more so now I have:
Library stuff---HUB(RJ45 only)----CROSS OVER CAT 5----Basement Hub----More

that is a LONG cat 5 in the middle by the way...
I am hoping to replace the long CAT5 one day with a WiFi (IEEE802.11b  read 
that "Airport") arangement once I figure out how to make it fly (and once 
the wife won't kill me for spending loot on it) and thereby TOTALLY reduce 
wire clutter.  I think it would be awsome to have a GS on a  WiFI arrangment 
;)

Here is my plan: Proline BBS on a GS via a Lance card to a web server running 
on a Newton MP2x00 (Orinoco WiFI drivers are being worked on as we speak) then 
out the DSL modem on my Compaq.  Yeah Yeah, I know I am crazy...but it beats 
drugs ;-)
