Well. Are any of the cables still attached? Unplug them all. If it
still does it then disconnect every thing from the CPU. Take out the
memory or any cards that you can.  Then turn it on with ONLY the
monitor connected. Still have a problem. I would take the cover off
and try shaking and tapping it on the bottom. Something may be loose
in there that should not be there.  Some times you will have to rotate
it in all directions to break it loose. If you hear something if could
be under the mother board. If  you hear something, then that is not
right. I would pull out the PS and the front strip. Next I would get a
can of compressed air and let it loose on everything. The inside back
plane where get plugged in. All the chips, All the slots. Then I would
look at everything inside. Making sure no bugs, rust or anything is
not shorting some thing out. I can not see the battery doing anything.
But I could see it becoming a short if it goes bad. So the last thing
I would try would be cutting on of the leads to see what happens or if
it is a Rom 3 remove it,
