OK, I'm bound to get flamed for this, but what is/was Fidonet?  

I am a long time computer user, but I never really did internet or news
group until the last few years.  I remember playing with Telnet hopping
from computer to computer back in 92 or so, just to see how far around
the world I could get.  It was all menu driven Unix anon logins.  I
didn't understand the technology then.  I only BBSed locally.  (Geez, we
had about a dozen BBS's back then.)  I always wanted my own BBS just to
play LORD.  :)  Anyone still have that door running?  I still have two
custom mazes that I created.  :)
