The original drive mechanism is a Saegate ST506. You can use an ST412
instead, this is the 10MB drive used for IBM XTs and much easier to
obtain. (Of course your Profile will remain a 5MB drive, though ST412 is
a 12MB mechanism)

All the electronics, including the drive's analog board were made by
Apple and cannot be replaced with something different. After swapping
the drive you have to find someone who is able to do a lowlevel format.
This requires an Apple III and a modified Z8 processor for the profile
logic board.
