Alternate Display Mode is only for shadowing of Text Page 2. In
otherwords unless your problem is a text screen filled entirely with
"2"s then it will have no affect. Actually what it will do, if your on
a ROM 00 or 01, is severely slow down the machine.

I've tried Ultima IV in the past on my IIgs, I can't remember any
problem with missing graphics. When night would fall in the game,
pieces of the surrounding map would turn black to indicate darkness
unless you [I]gnited a torch. Or maybe I'm thinking of Ultima V?

The only compatibility issue I can remember is using a Mocking-
board sound card or compatible in Ultima V. There was a patch
written for it though, but I never tried it as I keep my AE Phasor
card in one of my IIe's.
