I can agree on all the other stuff you wrote, but not on this one. 1994 my
harddisk on my Amiga got broken, so I bought a PC. Moving on to Windows
3.1 from Workbench 2.1 was not fun at all. I lost a lot of features like
true multitasking and a decent shell.
I moved on to Windows 95 when I bought my P166. The year was 1996 and
guess what, I still missed a decent shell!
I installed FreeBSD and X-Windows the same year, and finally I got a
system that could compare with my old Amiga 500 and WB 2.1!
My girlfriend has a computer with Windows 98. I tried to format a
3.5" disk on it yesterday. The disk was damaged so it wasn't possible to
format it. The operating system got locked during the time it was trying
to read the disk, and it took a while for it to realize it was unreadable.
That would _never_ happen if you tried to do the same thing with WB 2.1 on
the Amiga or FreeBSD! The same thing happened when I was trying to read a
bad CD. Windows 98 got locked but FreeBSD didn't.
