Excellent, I'm glad it worked for you finally, but I don't have this problem
with sharing CD's that are not in the drive at boot up. I can put any CD in
and share it after boot up. This may be an OS issue or CD drive issue, I
don't know as I only have one CD drive that I can use, and it's a caddy
burner (Sony CDU-926S).

What format is the CD, perhaps an ISO9660 limitation. I can see full naming,
but then perhaps there is an explanation for that too that I'm not aware of.
I do have HS.FST in my GSs, which is to read ISO9660 CD's on a CD-ROM on the
GS, but I don't think that's anything to do with an Appleshare vol.
I guess the other possibility is your Mac OS, I am using 7.6.

I wish I could get that speed, or are you quoting the book. My tests seem to
indicate about 100Kbps effective throughput on phonenet LocalTalk cabling.

Yep, and you may still have this 8.3 problem, but I can see long filenames
on my PC, because it's just another AppleShare vol. OK some transfers WILL
require renaming the file to ProDOS 15 char limit, but it sure beats that
8+3 crap.

I could set up the Mac from my other AppleShared GS, but knowing what to do
is the problem now. I'll have to re-visit the book, damn !!! :) And so far I
have found the book to be less than accurate with it's 6.0.1 information, so
I use it as a hint book rather than a technical reference :)
