...and people who constantly use plural forms when referring to singular
entities are to be taken as "authorities" on the correct usage of English?
(It's my understanding that that usage is starting to fall by the wayside,
which is a Good Thing. Saying (ObOnTopic) "Apple are a computer company"
sounds clunky. You're referring to one company, not several, so you should
say "Apple is a computer company" instead.)
