This modem works on the Macintosh without any special software, so I can
not see why it would not work on your IIgs. (I think I had mine running
on the IIgs for a while, but it was so long ago.)
That said, mine was rather tempermental and took forever to setup on a
Macintosh. After loosing the settings, I simply packed the thing away
and used a regular 14.4k modem instead. (It would establish carrier,
then spew junk over the lines.) So I wish you the best of luck.
But you are correct: the serial connector goes to your modem port and
behaves like a normal modem. The ADB connector simply provides power.
