The UniDisk 3.5 is an "intelligent" device. It contains its own
CPU, RAM and ROM firmware which has to process information
before sending it to the computer. By comparison the Apple 3.5
is a "dumb" drive device with no special circuitry (apart from the
daisy-chain board) and leaves its operation up to the host computer.
In short, the UniDisk 3.5 runs at about HALF the speed. It will
work on the Apple IIgs, but I wouldn't recommend it (it'd be put
to better use on an Apple IIc; no other 3.5 drive works on that
system).
