BTW despite it being bad style to answer one's own messages, if
anybody has dipswitch settings I'd be extremely grateful as well. 

I have managed to d/l an ImageWriter II manual from apple's web site
-- so maybe I can just test those codes and see which work and which
don't. I assume the IW II is upwards compatible, right?

I doubt the DIP switches match though. Well maybe they do, I'll see.
