If you get a parallel card, or a serial to parallel converter, you can
most likely use your Canon on your Apple II but not quite to its full
advantage.  If the Canon has Epson emulation then you can use an Epson
printer driver on your Apple II to get quite good output.

By the way, ImageWriter II ribbons are still available in various
stores.
