The Disk icon with the ? means that the Mac can't find a
bootable device.  You will need to reformat the
Hard drive and reload the finder. If that hard disk can't
reformat, it means the drive is defective and you will
need to get a new drive.  The Mac didn't come with
a hard drive format utility so you will need the one that
came with the drive.  At least the Mac Plus didn't come
with one.  I don't know about the powerbooks.
