Re: Apple Disk Drive - Hardware Mod Question

To elaborate on what Wayne has said, this is my attempt at a diagram to help
explain it...

You need a SPDT "Centre Off" (mini) toggle switch. It looks a bit like this
(the centre pin is common)...

    ----
O==|    |
O==|    |]=====O
O==|    |
    ----

Wire it in like this...

        existing internal drive Write Protect Switch
                                 |
                                 V     O open
    existing wire(~)       common
~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~X~~~~~~+~~~~~O----->O~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~
             |     cut     |        closed    |
             |             |                  |
             |             |                  |
             |             |                  |
             |             |                  | new wire (-)
             |             O normal           |
             |                                |
             ----------O---->  protect        |
                common                        |
                           O-------------------
                              enable
Of course this would be for the old Disk ][ drive, the newer Apple 5.25
drives use opto-couplers, so I'm not sure how that would be wired up.
Probably in a similar fashion.
How does this look to you Wayne ???
