Re: IIc Questions

Robert,

The IIc can use up to 2x Unidisk 3.5s, not Apple 3.5s.
I know of a guy in Wa, USA (is that Washington ?, I'm a bit out of my depth
here in Oz) that has a few of these, send me an e-mail and I will forward it
to him.
However you must also have a ROM upgraded IIc, as I am told early versions
don't support 3.5 at all.
You can't boot from the external 5.25, but the IIc will automatically boot
the 3.5 after it checks the internal 5.25.
Maybe you need to clean the heads and check the drive speed, with a utility
like Copy II+ and a blank disk. The speed should be set to 200.7ms (give or
take a whisker), or 299RPM. There is a small hole in the bottom of the IIc
to adjust this, but you need the software.
A little TLC inside might help.
If you have another Apple, check the disk on there first.
Another option might be to copy the disk onto another blank, then verify the
disk. Of course you'll need another machine to do that.
If the IIc is your only machine and you know the disk is good, you can try
adjusting the speed while it is booting, this can be tricky and you will
need speed adjusting software to fix it up correctly once it is up and
running.

Mark.
remove NOT to e-mail me.
