OK - I've picked up something I've wanted for quite a while: a hard drive
that will operate with an Apple //c.
It's a Quark QC10 drive and is a beast of a size. Came without the 19-pin
drive cable but that was easy to make.
The unit powers up and the hard drive spins up. The activity light also
indicates something is happening. Trouble is, the //c won't see the drive.
The //c I'm using is a standard ROM 0, ie it has the UniDisk 3.5 ROM.
I know the cable I made is good, because floppy drives attached to the 'far'
side of the HD unit's daisy-chain connector are recognised and work
perfectly. There are two rocker switches on the back of the unit, with
three-position settings for IIe/III, Macintosh and //c - I have both
switches on the //c setting.
What do I need to get the //c to see the drive? Presumably a formatter, but
what? Alternatively, even though it spins up, the HD itself could be dead -
if so, does anyone know what I need to replace it with (MFM or RLL unit - I
have no documentation?)
TIA
