I agree its an option, and without a scope to aid you tracing signals
nearly impossible, but for those who are inclined to rip apart a
modern tv with an analog input such as RGB, and have even a junky
sound card acting as a scope its an option, and typically you can get
better results depending on how much junk the signal passes though
before hitting the critical final controller. Just tossing it out
there!

And you wont see too many native controllers for VGA, these things
usually hang around the NTSC / PAL timings which is half the speed (in
the case of NTSC) of VGA, so you usually sample the signal and
transpose it onto the correct timing, which is no easy feat (though
its been done)
